Satellite Tracker is the evolution of the esteemed HamSat series by Vosworx. This application seamlessly integrates all features from its iPhone and iPad predecessors into a singular app that optimizes screen display for the device in use (refer to the varied iPhone and iPad screenshots available).
The software is designed to determine rise/set times, azimuth, and elevation of selected satellites, the Sun, or the Moon based on either user-inputted or network-fetched location data.
It offers two distinct modes for satellite rise/set calculations. The initial mode is tailored for users interested in all overflights at a specified location, such as Ham radio operators. The second mode calculates visible passes to ground observers, considering not only dark ground conditions but also sunlight on the satellite's surface (including transitions between lit and unlit states).
Additionally, users can view Earth either as a 3D globe or a 2D map embellished with photorealistic textures. The map's orientation can be easily altered by rotating the device between portrait (3D) and landscape (2D) modes. Regardless of orientation, users can zoom in/out and pan using touchscreen gestures.
The application boasts over a dozen customization controls, allowing tailored functionality adjustments to meet specific requirements (e.g., Earth texture selection, location settings, overflight type).
Notably, the app is now free to download and offers comprehensive tracking, viewing, and communication capability with the International Space Station (previously exclusive to paid ISS family apps). For extended satellite tracking and communication options, subscription services are available:
- HamSat (Annual and Monthly): Grants access to NORAD and AMSAT two-line element sets covering all amateur-related satellites.
- ProSat (Annual and Monthly): Offers access to numerous satellite groups including Brightest 100, Recent Launches, Amateur Radio Satellites, CubeSats, Disaster Monitoring, Earth Resources, Education, Engineering, Geodetic, Geostationary, GOES, GPS Operational, Intelsat, Iridium, Molniya, NOAA, Orbcomm, Search & Rescue (SARSAT), Space & Earth Science, Space Station, and Weather satellites.
